MAGMU Officially moves -Stefawn Thompson
July 12, 2011
This will be the last WordPress MAGMU post. The past few weeks have been rough for me so I wasn’t able to update this like I should. But during my time away I discovered Google+. I then rediscovered all the Google services. Thus I made the decision to move MAGMU to Blogger for good. The new MAGMU can be found at, http://magmublog.blogspot.com/ also Google’s web hosting service (blogspot.com) is only $10 a year. I will announce if MAGMU ends up with its own domain name. Hope to see you all there. Enjoy.

Like the title says, been through some stuff this week that detoured me from blogging on Wednesday. Don’t worry the next post WILL be on Wednesday. We have a lot to talk about in this post. We have creative ways for you and the kids to keep cool. We also have emotionlessvanilla from deviantART.com in our artist spotlight. Some sad news about one of my favorite hip-hop artist, Rhymefest. Finally, a creativity contest and logo contest. Stay tuned.
It’s Too Hot, Too Hot, Too Hot Lady
Gotta run for shelter, gotta run for shade. Well that’s just boring. How about a few ways that’s fun and creative way to get cool in these 90 plus degree days.
1. Water Warfare
Want to get your kids of the Xbox and PS3? They just sit there playing Modern Warfare 2 or Black Ops? Well go buy an arsenal of water guns and water balloons, find a bunch of people, like 32 for example, then let the water fly. The bigger your back yard the more fun. Hey if your car is dirty you can accidentally leave it in the middle of the battlefield and watch the water hit it.
2. Adventure Land
May not be the most creative but the people who put it there sure are. Theme parks are a fun way to cool off. Some parks, for example Busch Gardens Williamsburg, even have stories behind their rides that you can listen to while waiting. So go get wild on a roller coaster that’s faster than you can think.
3. Art in the Park
The park is a great way to do and find all sorts of art. Grab some pencil and paper and sketch under a tree. Listen to live local bands or watch local actors or listen to a book reading. Grab a book, nook, iPhone, android device, iPad, or kindle and read to yourself. The most creative thing, that’s perfect for young artistic minds, walk through the park and take turns telling a story.
These are just a few ideas but be creative whatever you do.
Artist Spotlight – Not Happy or Sad Just Vanilla

Some of her likes include candy, Gir, and playing the guitar, pretty much your average 15-year-old girl. One of the Best, Get Well Soon Rhymefest
Born Che Smith, Ryhmefest is definitely not your average hip-hop artist. Rhymefest has been a vocal advocate for Hip Hop artists worldwide. In October 2006, Fest became the first rapper to meet with the United Kingdom’s Conservative Party. As he sat down with David Cameron, the Parliamentary Leader of the Opposition, Rhymefest was able to convince the political figure not to be an enemy of all things Hip Hop. More recently, Rhymefest has traveled with Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-Texas), Rep. John Conyers (D-Michigan), and Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Georgia) as a proponent of H.R. 848, the Performance Rights Act.
Rhymefest came into the national spotlight after co-writing “Jesus Walks” with his childhood comrade Kanye West. Fest contributed significantly to West’s debut “The College Dropout,” co-writing songs like “All Falls Down” as well. The two also collaborated on Rhymefest’s breakout single “Brand New,” off of 2006’s critically acclaimed Blue Collar LP.From scribing 16s for legends like Queen Latifah and Lil Jon, to lacing his own tracks with extraordinary energy, Rhymefest is a powerhouse behind the scenes and in the limelight.
Rhymefest has been hard at work perfecting his highly anticipated El Che album. Finally liberated from major label red tape, Hip Hop lovers should expect to hear an unfiltered Rhymefest, free from the corporate suits and oppressive ideas of the prevailing record industry. Che is partnering with dangerousNEGRO Entertainment (dN|Be ENT) as the flagship artist, and will enjoy full creative control over his projects.
Recently, via Twitter, I discovered shocking new about this amazingly talented artist. On Thursday, June 2, 2011, Che Rhymefest Smith was admitted into the ER at risk of Diabetic Coma. His sugar levels were 739, the normal being 80. Rhymefest has since been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and is awaiting release from the hospital. It is shocking to see that the last tweet from him was on June 1st, 2011. In an instant tragedy. From me, MAGMU writers, and your fans, we pray for you a speedy recovery.
Make Something Already!
Two official MAGMU creativity contest are underway. First, the Creative Explosion contest. Second, the MAGMU Logo contest. Go to the Contest Page for rules and details. The first will have five lucky creative individuals have their creation featured here on MAGMU. The second will have our new logo buy them permanently added to this site and all things MAGMU. Good luck.

DiRT 3 and Other Fun Stuff – Stefawn Thompson
May 25, 2011
That’s right dudes and dudettes, as promised I am here before Midnight with yet another post on a Wednesday. Why Wednesday, cause it’s the day that’s just there, in the middle, besides nothing is on tv. Now today we hit the track drifting in DiRT 3 and compare it to Gran Turismo 5 and SEGA Rally Online Arcade. Also a request to all Android game devs and all those actively commenting on Android games. Also I discovered something while updating my Samsung Galaxy S Epic 4G’s camera, still waiting on Gingerbread though.
Crest into hard right to… finish.
I played the demo of DiRT, fell in love with DiRT 2, and now the proud owner of DiRT 3. The series following the Colin McRae series of games is visually as stunning as those before it. When you start DiRT 3 you’ll notice the familiar routine, make a profile, pick a name or nickname for the game to call you, and enter your online pass. The VIP Pass and online pass has become quite common in games recently. Though most games new come with it purchasing a used copy or renting will require you to purchase one. This is a downside to those purchasing a used copy to get a good deal. Even more of a downside for XBox owners who have to pay to play online anyway. But hey, you’re a gamer, you know what you were getting into. So the first thing you notice is that it has this futuristic, virtual reality feel to the whole menu and transitions. A farcry from DiRT 2′s more realistic and fun looking menus. Also, compared to DiRT 2, DiRT 3 seems to revert to it’s more serious tone and nature as in DiRT 1. The voices that help guide you through sound more like profesional business people walking you through and lending helpful information unlike the wild and crazy outburst from fellow drivers in DiRT 2. Over all the menus and other non-racing elements are much more subtle, toned down, and serious compared to the earlier installment. Now for the important part, the racing. The first thing you will notice, depending on your difficulty settings, is that they added a driving line. Driving lines have been in racing games since the earlier Gran Turismo games and Need For Speed games. Racing game developers realized as games got faster, beginners and intermediate gamers may not be able to keep up. It’s a nice feature but for this kind of game were drifting and sliding would more likely help you win a race, the line isn’t really needed and is destracting in my opinion. Graphically this game wins hands down, as did DiRT 2. Once again the best visuals in a racing game I’ve seen and it is slowly replacing Gran Turismo as my favorite series. the dirt particles, lighting, shadows, reflections, almost makes you forget it’s a game, which is what I expect from a racing game. Physics are as realistic as it gets. It makes the game unpredictable, just like real rally racing. The slightest over steer or smallest slide could be the difference between a win and a lose. Also the AI has uped its game. These guys and girls won’t just let you drive by, you have to fight for first place leaving virtually no room for errors. In intermediate on DiRT 2 I had no problem making pole position (1st, 2nd, or 3rd), but in DiRT 3 it’s a whole other ball game. The chalenge is clearly here in this one, whether you want it or not. I’ve only done three races and will give an extened review via blogger. In closing this game is worth a try, so far after 2 hours I left wishing I still had DiRT 2.
I give DiRT 3 a 7 out of 10

DiRT 3 vs. Gran Turismo 5 (GT5)
These are two of the most visually stunning and over the top realistic racing games. Both games can easily fall into the category of simulation game. The thing that I am comparing is both Rally portions of the game. I have played very little of the GT5 rally portion of the game, however the same can be said about DiRT 3. I have to give DiRT 3 the nod on physics and graphics in this fight. GT5 does get the array of cars and the beauty of them. When it comes to who’s the better rally game it goes to DiRT 3 hands down. Sorry Polyphony but Codemasters is out for blood, you guys need to step it up.
DiRT 3 – 7 out of 10 | GT5 – 7 out of 10
DiRT 3 wins
DiRT 3 vs. SEGA Rally Online Arcade (SEGA Rally)
Due to the Playstation store still being down I have been unable to test drive SEGA Rally. This fight will be postponed until further notice.
DiRT 3 -7 out of 10 | SEGA Rally – N/A

To all Android Game Devs, and those who comment on them…
First the game devs. I want to point out that Android has an increasingly high number of good games over the past few months but I have only one request. If you plan on releasing a good game over $1 then I suggest making a free demo or trial version. Money is tight for everyone now adays but I can assure you that if you have faith in your game that those who get the free version, demo version, or trial version, will buy the full version at whatever cost. Now for those who comment on these games, I a few request. First, “this game sucks” is not a legit or helpful comment. Why not put why it sucks, what phone you have that it sucks on? The web Android Market has no restriction on comment length so vent all your opinions on it there. Also “This game is good 5 stars” is also not a good comment. What makes it so good? Again, what phone you using it on? Finally, please read the game description. If it has a list of phones and yours is not on that list it’s a high probability that you will encounter problems. If you are using a phone that first sold before Android 2.1, you may not have the power to run newer apps. Just because you can downlaod it from the market doesn’t mean it works for you. Okay, my ranting is done, moving on.
Update your camera firmware and…
Get Samsung Apps app on your Samsung Epic 4G. This then allows you to download Kies Air. This app is way more useful and convenient than the AllShare app. The Samsung Apps app also has numerous apps that normally are paid app for free. So check it out, you need to update anyway or you can’t use the video camera so why not.
Well that’s all for today see ya next week until then, be creative. Oh and by the way, if you are creative and want yoru work(s) of art shown here email me at Magmublog@yahoo.com

The Long Awaited Return… By: Stefawn Thompson
May 17, 2011
So it’s been a while since I made a post here. Been kinda busy but now I’m back. To celebrate we are going to talk about some other things that are finally back. First we head back to the Nether Realm to save the world from the evil Shoa Khan. Then we will get technical with the Atlas and P-Body. And PSN users rejoice as their favorite system is back online. Also returning the dreaded Samsung update. I’ll talk about what Sprint and Samsung will have to do to keep a hold of their Epic 4G owners long enough to get their hands on the Samsung Galaxy S II Within. All this and more only here on MAGMU.
Toasty!
The classic fighting game that introduced gore and violence to the houses of young SNES and Genesis owners everywhere is back, now on the XBox 360 and the PS3. That’s right Mortal Kombat is back and I have to say I was both shocked and impressed by the execution of this game. The first thing I noticed is that there is a tutorial mode, which is rather helpful for both beginners and veterans of the game. Secondly I noticed that fighting has been taken to a whole new level. There are breakers, x-ray moves, and more plus every character is dynamically different. Some deal more damage than others, like Goro compared to Sonya for example. Characters like Sonya are extremely fast and agile while Raiden is a bit on the slow side. Also there are general moves that only a few characters can do such as air grabs for example. This game requires way more than button mashing, you need strategy and precision. The game also adjust to your play style making it harder as you go along. The third thing I noticed is the story mode, it is immersive. The story pulls you in and doesn’t let go. You’ll see old faces and hear deeper stories giving each character more depth than before. I haven’t played online yet but I will tell you how often I loose when I do. Lastly I love the tag mode. Clearly taken from games such as Tekken and Street Fighter, it still is a fun way to play an already fun game with friends that don’t like you giving them the beat down every time. If you were a fan of the first three Mortal Kombat games this is a must have in your collection.
I give Mortal Kombat a 9 out of 10

And Now You’re a Potato!
Well I never finished the first Portal, it didn’t quite hold on to me that long. This one however held on with a vice grip and would not let go. Portal 2 is an extraordinarily developed game. Adding in elements such as a story, new characters, and multiplayer made a good game great. In Portal 2, the player returns as the human Chell, having awakened from stasis after many years. Chell must navigate the dilapidated Aperture Science Enrichment Center and its test chambers with the portal gun while the facility is rebuilt by the reactivated GLaDOS. First, let’s start with the fact that those who got the game got a free copy to use on their personal computer, be it Mac or Windows. Then there’s the single player mode. The store starts with pure excitement and humor and only develops from there. Some games start with a good story and dialog then become flat half way through. Portal 2 doesn’t, with constant random rambles from Wheatley, a robotic personality sphere, the recordings of Aperture Science CEO Cave Johnson, and constant insults from reactivated GLaDOS, whom we met in the original Portal game, there is no shortage of humor and fun. In addition the puzzle are mind bending, you can spend hours trying to figure out where to place each portal to correctly get through each level. The puzzle salving fun only gets better when you have to work with a partner to get through levels. The multiplayer levels, whether split-screen or online, require you to communicate with your partner or else you will fail to make it through the level. No level can be completed on your own, forcing cooperation. However, GlaDOS thinks it would be more fun to attempt to pit the two of you against each other. The co-op actions such as hugging, dancing, high-fives, and more that you unlock along the way makes it even more fun to just goof around for a while. If you don’t like thinking, I would highly suggest not getting this game. If you love a challenge I Highly recommend this game. Also I just learned of the beta test of the Portal 2 Authoring Tools available for free to anyone with the PC version of Portal 2. This allows you to make your own level in the game, it just keeps getting better.
I give Portal 2 a 10 out of 10

Sprint, Samsung, Gingerbread, Oh My!
With Sprint and Samsung’s track record of Samsung phone Android updates on the high-end phones it’s easy to see the lack of enthusiasm over news that UK Samsung Galaxy S line is receiving the Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) update Mid-May (as in right now). US, Europe, and other countries are said to see it following the UK update, meaning starting Next month maybe. The Epic 4G is one of 2 high-end Galaxy S phones under the Sprint carrier. The other is the Nexus S which comes stock running 2.3.3 already. Sprint and Samsung must swiftly and efficiently put the Gingerbread Update on the Epic as soon as it’s available. Why? Because Android Central discovered accessories on sale for unannounced Galaxy S II phones, one of which is the Samsung Within for Sprint. It will most likely ship with 2.3.3 but with Ice Cream Sandwich rumored to be coming soon will the phone need to be updated afterwords? The extremely late and partially functional 2.1 update for the Samsung Moment and the unusably buggy first 2.2 Update for the Epic 4G accompanied by a later update to fix it being still a bit buggy, Sprint and Samsung have a lot riding on the Gingerbread update for the Epic. A late or failed attempt could cause Samsung to lose loyal customers to HTC, the other high-end Android phone manufacture with Sprint. A success could see a decent sale of the loyal Samsung owners when the Within or future phones arrive to Sprint. Sony for example learned from their mistakes, the moment PSN went out we were getting new, not exactly helpful news but none the less we weren’t left in the dark without a flash light. The PSN outage could have ended the PS3 going by past events where it would take days or weeks to here a word of anything from Sony. Hopefully Sprint and Samsung take a page from the Sony handbook and learn from the past. At this point failure is not an option for the two.
Artist of the Day
Today’s artist of the day is B.O.B. He has done an amazing job bringing back real hip-hop. though his style could be compared to Andre “3000″ Benjamin, he still has a style all his own. Born Bobby Ray Simmons, Jr. in Winston-Salem, North Carolina 1988, he currently signed under the labels of Grand Hustle Records, Rebel Rock Entertainment, and Atlantic Records. His debut single “Nothin’ on You” reached number one in both the United States and the United Kingdom. “Airplanes,” B.o.B’s second single, emulated this success, peaking at number one and number two in the U.K. and the U.S., respectively. His third single, “Magic,” became B.o.B’s third consecutive top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100. B.o.B was named the ninth Hottest MC in the Game of 2010 by MTV. I recommend all fans of hip-hop to check him out. I wish I had sooner instead of blowing him off to be just another young rapper.

To all Andorid devs
May 4, 2011
After playing games like Zombie Roam AR and Cordy, I am dissapointed in Android game devs. Zombie Roam AR is the BEST Augmented Reality game on the android, mostly because it’s the only of its kind. Cordy is a 3D playformer of epic porpotion. I forgot I was on a phone when I was playing it. This is not a standard phone so why have standard phone games? Gameloft has stepped up but we need more. I challenge android devs to make games that push, 2.1 and up, to its limit wile maintaining a smooth and fun game play. Don’t make me want a iPhone or need a PSP -Epic 4G lover, Loyal Android owner

Artist Spotlight is Back -Stefawn T.
June 29, 2010
Ok so my thoughts on E3 2010 for Sony and Nintendo will come some other time. To sum it up I was unimpressed by both. Any way if you want just ask and I’ll give you detailed opinion. But for now back to art ^^.
Just-An-Artist
In this corner it’s the artist from Chile, weighing in at whatever he ways, just-a-creEp. He normally goes by Creepo on deviantART website and is probably one of the funniest cartoonist you’ll find there. That’s right I said cartoonist. Sorry anime fans no Naruto fan art here. That’s probably one of the other reasons I love his art because it’s not Anime. The number of cartoonist is dwindling and being replaced by Manga and Anime artist, and for 5 years he’s been bringing something else to dA. Remember when cartoon character used to drop anvils on people? Now they have to shoot fireballs, what is the world coming to. So how did he get today’s spotlight? Well I turned it on and it just happen to be pointing at him, he may now be blind. Seriously, his style is amazing, his comics about his life are hilarious, and he is one of the proud and few cartoonist. Why do the legs have to be the same length? It’s a cartoon silly! Below is a link to his dA gallery. If you like what you see check out his commission account, just-a-commission, link also below. Check him out and tell him I sent you. It won’t get you or me anything, I just wanted to say it. Oh and he requested I post his art too so I picked three favorites, it was hard to pick just three.

ModNation Racers Review and Microsoft at E3 – Stefawn T.
June 15, 2010
So today I will FINALLY give you my ModNation Racers review. Also today I will talk about Microsoft at E3. I am going to miss today’s Nintendo E3, I’m sure I can watch it somewhere later but I will catch Sony’s E3 press conference. I wish I could be there, oh well. Let’s get started.
Mods, Start Your Racers!
If you been around Playstation@Home or the Sony site or stay up to date with gaming in general you my have heard of the Playstation 3′s ModNation Racers. However, with all the hype is it really worth your hard-earned $60? That all depends on the player really. Fans of Mario cart will have a familiar feel in this game. Those who don’t like Mario cart may not like this game, but it is very different from Mario Kart. First thing you’ll notice is it has a story. Though you can’t change the name of your story character (he is often refered to as Tag), you can edit him and his cart to your liking. The Mods and karts are highly customizable, there is very little limit to what you can create. It may not have the fun and excitement of LittleBigPlanet but it is nice to be able to show off your creativity and personality to the world while they eat your dust. The Mods are very animated, they make jesters, turn and laugh at opponents they pass, and even move around anxiously while you edit them. The weapons in the game are nice but few. There are 4 pickups total that I’ve seen. They are, Lightning, Pulse, Rockets, and boost. Each weapon has 3 levels the third effecting everyone on the course. There is a boost bar with you fill by doing trick in the air and drifting. The boost bar doubles as your shield energy bar. The shield doesn’t last long so you have to strategically plan when to activate it. The track creation is just as fun as the Mod and Kart creation. You do have limits but they seem to be per item. The tracks can twist and turn how ever you want it. I have made a track and few Mods and Karts and put them in the share center. I am R3537L1F3 on the Playstation Network, maybe we can race some time. See you on the track.
Microsoft Kinect?
So you already have to pay to use live right? Why not make it work for you? Well Natale, the big thing Microsoft everyone was hyped up about, debuted “completed” at this years E3. I will say it looks good and sounds good but it wasn’t impossible. Microsoft just took the time to do it right, pretty much one upping the Playstation Eye. Similar to how Playstation Move one ups the Wii remote. No one is doing anything new just improving what was already there. Sony put very little focus on the Playstation Eye, it too has a built-in microphone and a highly advanced camera but Sony released nothing for it and it kinda just sat there. Microsoft’s new Xbox 360 design looks like a cross between a Wii and PS3. Sleek, black, small, and shiny. Will the new smaller design with more memory and built-in wi-fi prevent red ringing and make people want it more? I don’t know. Game wise nothing too spectacular. Forza of course looks amazing though driving it with Kinect not so much. Kinect looks like it’s out to attract the Wii fans, don’t know how it will appeal to the hardcore gamer.
In Closing…
That’s it for today. I was going to do an Art of the Day but I’ll do one later. Enjoy your day and be safe out there.

So I haven’t been around lately, sorry. I been negleting my web browser so this isn’t the only site not getting love. However I am back and 100% ready to tell you what’s been going on lately.
Let’s start with the Android 2.1 and the ups and downs of the long awaited update on Sprint’s Samsung Moment.
At the Moment it’s 2.1
Google’s Android OS is a nice change from the once dominating Apple. Apple seems to be loosing it’s touch, I’m even back in love with windows thanks to Windows 7. Turns out I’m a PC and I wish Windows 7 was my idea. Anyway, back to Google. The great thing about Samsung Moment getting 2.1 is now I can run the cool apps everyone with 2.0 have been running all this time. I love the new apps including one called LauncherPro which changes the home screen and is a lot better then Panda Home. Some of the 3D games that were sluggish and glitchy before are much faster and more fun. There is a negative side though. Nothing is perfect, sadly. There is no live wallpaper darn. Also those before mentioned games, the ones that were released for 2.0 may not work properly or at all on the Moment. The update pretty much made the original function faster with better UI on some things (like the camera for example) and allowed Android 2.0 and Android 2.1 apps to run. In October I will use my Sprint rebate and get a phone that (hopefully by then) will be running Froyo or better. Now that I have an Android phone I never want to go back to standard cell phones. In addition Google is working on a tablet that runs Google Android to battle the iPad and they are making Google TV. This ladies and gents should be an interesting 2010-2011. Wouldn’t it be cool to see a Google Android MP3 player? Take the poll and tell us what you think should have Android.
Ready, Set, Hold on not yet…
